Four wrecks, one reef
Abu Nuhas has wrecked at least four cargo ships over the decades, earning it the nickname the 'ship graveyard'. The Giannis D (1983) and the Carnatic (1869) are the two we dive most often — but the Chrisoula K (the 'Tile Wreck') and the Kimon M (the 'Lentil Wreck') are on the same reef and can be arranged on request for repeat visitors.

FAQ
Do I need to be Advanced certified for Abu Nuhas?
Advanced is recommended because some wrecks reach 27 m, but the shallow parts of the Giannis D are accessible to Open Water divers in good conditions. We match the dives to your level — tell us your certification when you book.
Which wrecks will we dive?
Usually the Giannis D and the Carnatic — the two most rewarding of the four. The Chrisoula K ('Tile Wreck') and Kimon M ('Lentil Wreck') are on the same reef and can be arranged on request.
How far is it from Hurghada?
About 1.5–2 hours by boat north of Hurghada Marina, on the northern side of the Strait of Gubal. We start early to make the most of the day.
Can I combine this with the Thistlegorm?
Yes — our SS Thistlegorm overnight safari combines Abu Nuhas and the Thistlegorm across two days with an overnight on the boat. Ask us about it.
What's included in the price?
Hotel transfer, the boat trip, two guided wreck dives, tanks, weights, a wreck guide, lunch and drinks, and dive insurance. Equipment rental (€15/day), Nitrox (€8/dive) and any marine-park/port fees are extra.
Dive sites you may visit
Site choice depends on the day's wind, swell, and your group's level.
Carnatic
The oldest and most beautiful of the Abu Nuhas wrecks — a P&O steam-and-sail ship wrecked in 1869. More than 150 years of coral has turned her elegant skeleton into a living reef draped in soft corals and glassfish.
Giannis D
The most photogenic of the four Abu Nuhas wrecks — a Greek cargo ship that struck the reef in 1983 and broke into three. Her dramatically tilted stern, with engine room and mast, is one of the Red Sea's best wreck dives.
