This is the shallow end, and that's the point
Most first dives in Hurghada go to twelve metres. That's a perfectly safe depth, but if you're genuinely nervous — about your ears, about the mask, about not being able to just stand up — twelve metres is a lot to agree to before you've breathed underwater even once. So this day doesn't go past five. Shallow enough that the surface is always right there, that the light stays bright and the colours don't wash out, and that your ears barely have to do anything. You get two dives instead of one, because the first one is spent getting used to the equipment and the second one is the one you actually enjoy. If you'd rather be on a boat than walk in from the sand — or the other way round — Beach Day is the same day, same prices, different entry.

You don't have to decide in advance. Start on the standard day, and if the first dive goes well you can move up to Discover Scuba on the spot and pay the difference — either way the full amount comes off your Open Water course.

How this works

Standing up in the shallows
Waist-deep water where you can stand at any moment. You breathe through the regulator with your face in the water until it stops feeling strange — for most people that takes about four minutes.

First dive — 15 to 25 minutes
Along the reef at three to five metres, instructor holding your BCD the whole time. Shallow enough that the light is bright and the coral is at its most colourful, and you can surface any second you want to.

Lunch and a decision
Eat, warm up, and see how you feel. Almost everyone wants the second dive — but if one was enough, that's a complete day and nobody will push you.

FAQ
What's the difference between the €50 and the €80 version?
Depth and time. The €50 day stays above 5 metres with 15–25 minute dives — deliberately gentle, for people who aren't yet sure they'll enjoy it. The €80 Discover Scuba day goes to 12 metres with 25–45 minute dives and covers the full confined-water skill set, which is exactly day one of the Open Water course. Same instructor, same ratio, same boat either way — and you can decide on the day.
Can I upgrade after I'm already in the water?
Yes. Plenty of people book the €50 day, surface from the first dive grinning, and ask to go deeper. If you're comfortable and the conditions allow, we run the second dive as the Discover Scuba dive and you pay the €30 difference at the end. It never works the other way round — nobody has to go deeper than they want to.
Do I need to know how to swim?
No. You need to be comfortable having your face in the water — that's genuinely it. At five metres you're wearing a jacket that floats you and holding on to an instructor who has done this several thousand times.
What if I hate it after the first dive?
Then we stop, and the day is still complete. You keep the photos, the logged dive and the lunch. Nobody has ever been talked into a second dive here, and we're not going to start with you.
What about my ears?
Ears are the single most common worry and five metres is the honest answer to it. You'll learn to equalise standing in waist-deep water before you go anywhere, and we descend as slowly as you need. If your ears won't clear on the day, we stay shallower still — plenty of the reef is at three metres.
Is there an age limit?
Minimum age 10, same as any introductory scuba experience. For younger children, look at the Bubblemaker course — it's built for ages 8 to 10 in very shallow water.
Can my partner come without diving?
Yes — €35 covers their day with lunch and drinks, and they can snorkel over the same reef and watch the whole thing from the surface.

Abu Hashish Lagoon
A protected sandy lagoon inside the Abu Hashish reef system — flat, calm, and packed with critters. Our favourite spot for buoyancy training and macro photography.
Turtle Bay
A shallow, sheltered lagoon system near El Fanadir, named for the green turtles that graze its seagrass — calm, warm and shallow enough for snorkellers and first-timers.
