What AIDA 2 — Freediver actually involves
The AIDA 2 Freediver course is where freediving really begins. Over two to three days you'll master relaxed breathing, static and dynamic breath-hold, proper equalisation and the safety skills every freediver needs — finishing as a certified AIDA 2 Freediver, qualified to dive to 20 metres with a buddy anywhere in the world.
What you'll actually achieve
By the end of AIDA 2 you'll hold your breath for two minutes or more, swim 40 metres underwater on a single breath, and descend a line to 20 metres in control and relaxed. More importantly, you'll know how to do it safely — how to breathe up, how to recover, and how to keep your buddy safe. These are the foundations every freediver builds on.
Your schedule
- 1 Day 1
Theory, breathing & static
Freediving physiology, breathing and relaxation, equalisation theory and safety. Then confined-water practice: static apnea (breath-hold while floating face-down) and your first dynamic swims, plus rescue skills.

FAQ
Do I need AIDA 1 first?
No. AIDA 2 is a complete beginner course — you can start here with no prior freediving experience. AIDA 1 is just an optional one-day taster.
Can I really hold my breath for two minutes?
Almost everyone can, with the right technique. Relaxation — not lung size — is what makes the difference, and that's exactly what the course teaches. Most students surprise themselves on day one.
How deep will I actually go?
The certification qualifies you to 20 m. How deep you dive during the course depends on your equalisation and comfort — the minimum to pass is 12 m, and many students reach the full 20 m.
Is there a written exam?
Yes — a short theory exam with a 75% pass mark. The e-materials we send you cover everything, and your instructor goes through it all with you.
